by Ashley Kittrell Metter High School has found the man for the job. Last Wednesday, Mike West accepted the head football coach and athletic director position at Metter High School. West has been the defensive coordinator at Fitzgerald High School for the past five years. His record at Fitzgerald includes two Region 1AA Championships and one Region 2AA Championship. West says he’s up to the challenge of creating a new and exciting chapter in Metter’s outstanding football tradition. “I’m here and I’m here to stay,” West said. “I came here to win a championship and that’s what we’re going to do.” But West hopes he can bring much more to the team than just winning. “It’s not just about winning championships,” he explained. “That’s what the goal is, but to reach that goal you’ve got to do things the right way and that’s by building character and determination.” Coach West got a chance to meet with the players last week.
